Andrei Markov leaves KHL game with unspecified injury

NHL games might not be in action, but that didn’t stop Andrei Markov from doing what he’s done in far too many Montreal Canadiens contests: get injured.

The offensive defenseman left during the second period of a KHL game today and didn’t return, according to Sovietsky Sport’s Pavel Lysenkov.

It’s not clear if Markov re-injured his notably troublesome knee, however. Those problems limited him to just 20 games played in the last two seasons and 45 in 2009-10.’s report points out another troubling bit: Markov hasn’t exactly been dominant so far overseas. In nine games, he only produced a single point (an assist) for Vityaz Chekov.

Knee injury or not, Montreal must be a bit concerned about Markov’s health in the near future. His contract runs through 2013-14 with a $5.75 million annual cap hit.
