New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist is holding out hope.

New York’s superstar goalie tells Larry Brooks of the New York Post he’s trying to stay positive about things working out between the NHL and NHLPA but says he’ll ultimately do what he has to to stay in game shape.

“I’m going to stay put for a little while, and skate and train here, but if this isn’t settled soon, I’ll choose the option that will allow me to be in the best shape for the Rangers once the season begins,” Lundqvist said.

“And if playing high-level games in Sweden does become a possibility, that probably would be the best way for me to accomplish that.”

On the upside for Lundqvist, his old team in Sweden, Frolunda, would be eager to bring him back if possible. Whether he and other Swedish players will be able to is still being debated over there now as the SEL wants to keep NHL players out but the country’s competition board ruled against them.
