Predators Smith, Wilson ponder different lockout paths

The Nashville Predators are putting a lot of stock in Craig Smith and Colin Wilson handling an increased workload next season, but they might not develop together - at least not during the lockout.

Wilson told The Tennessean that he’s leaning toward going overseas amid the work stoppage.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin native Smith said he’ll probably go “right down the street” to play for the AHL’s Norfolk Admirals.

“It would certainly be an experience over there,” Wilson said. “I think it would be a lot of fun. At the same time staying here, training and working out may be a little bit boring, but it also could be beneficial and seen as an opportunity to get a little bit bigger and stronger before the next season starts.”

Either way, the Predators expect big things from both forwards after signing each one to new deals that average $2 million per season.

(Wilson received a three-year deal that kicks in next season while Smith garnered a two-year extension that begins in 2013-14.)
