Quincey excited to “finally get a real training camp with Detroit”

Kyle Quincey

Halford linked to this Denver Post article yesterday for the scuttlebutt that has Ryan O’Reilly seeking a five-year contract with the Avs.

But just as interesting were defenseman Kyle Quincey’s comments about his upcoming season with the Red Wings.

“I’m so excited to finally get a real training camp with Detroit and starting fresh, learning their systems inside and out,” said Quincey. “Great organization. So much history, and I’m going back to the place I was drafted in, so it’s kind of a second chance. And with Nicklas Lidstrom retiring and losing Brad Stuart (traded to San Jose), there’s a chance to step up. I’m looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity, and just can’t wait to get back to work.”

Quincey, 27, struggled in Detroit after being traded from Colorado (via Tampa Bay) in February, thus explaining his excitement to “finally get a real training camp with Detroit and starting fresh, learning their systems inside and out.”

In July, he signed a two-year contract with expectations he’ll take on a large role with the Lidstrom- and Stuart-less Red Wings. (Together, those two have around 3,000 NHL games under their belts, regular season and playoffs combined.)
