According to Sportsnet, the National Hockey League Players’ Association is “quietly” making plans for an exhibition series against the best players from the KHL in the event of a lockout.

More, from Sportsnet:

Sources tell Sportsnet’s John Shannon that games between a team of Russian all-stars from the Kontinental Hockey League and “world” all-stars from the NHL are tentatively set for Moscow, Halifax and Quebec City, as well as an undetermined site in Southern Ontario.

Donald Fehr, the NHLPA’s executive director, spoke with representatives of the Russian league while overseas last week.

This wouldn’t be the first time NHL players aligned themselves in such fashion during a work stoppage.

During the 1994-95 lockout, the Ninety Nine All Star Tour -- headed by Wayne Gretzky -- played a total of eight games in five different countries. Star players included Gretzky, Grant Fuhr, Paul Coffey, Al MacInnis, Sergei Fedorov, Brett Hull, Mark Messier and Steve Yzerman.
