A day after the Nashville Predators boldly matched the Philadelphia Flyers’ offer sheet, Shea Weber told the Tennessean that it’s “a positive thing.”
“I love the city of Nashville. I love the fans and my teammates. It’s a very positive thing that the ownership has stepped up and shown they’re going to be a team that’s going to spend to the cap and bring guys in and be a successful team,” Weber said.
“Now that this is over with … this is a place I can see myself for the rest of my career.”
Fourteen years might just cover the rest of Weber’s career, too.
Much speculation cropped up about Weber wanting a no-trade (or no-movement) clause added to his contract. Weber said “we’re trying to get” a NMC and “hopefully we can work that out.”
He’s played every game of his NHL career with the Predators, ascending to captain during that process. The team paid a massive fee to make sure that he won’t be going anywhere unless they choose to trade him down the line.
Publicly, Weber says that he’s just fine sticking with Nashville.
