The Montreal Canadiens experienced a ton of change this summer, but most of those moves came in the front office. They did select Alex Galchenyuk third overall in the 2012 NHL Draft, however, and now he’s under contract with the team. The Habs inked him to a three-year entry-level deal on Monday.

New Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin decided to use that high draft pick on Galchenyuk despite the fact that the Sarnia Sting center missed all but two OHL regular season games in 2011-12. Here’s what Joe Yerdon wrote about Galchenyuk in June:

He’s one of the draft’s “Big 5″. While he dealt with a knee injury (torn ACL) this year, Galchenyuk’s talent is immense. He finished second in OHL rookie scoring last season behind likely No. 1 pick and Sarnia teammate Nail Yakupov and had a strong showing in this year’s OHL playoffs. The Sting lost in the first round, but Galchenyuk had two goals and two assists in the series.
