Ducks sign Daniel Winnik to two-year, $3.6 million deal

Daniel Winnik

Daniel Winnik may not have jumped out to many people on the free agent list, but he’ll be taking his talents to the Pond in Anaheim now.

The Ducks announced they’ve signed Winnik to a two-year deal, one that Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports is worth $3.6 million, good for a cap hit of $1.8 million. Last season, Winnik split his time between Colorado and San Jose after a mid-season trade.

In 84 games last season (yes, two more than most everyone plays), he potted eight goals and 15 assists but he’s better known for his work on checking lines and frustrating opponents. He’s steady and reliable and will give the Ducks better balance among their bottom six forwards, something they struggled with last year.
