‘Canes sign Wallace -- one year, $700,000

Tim Wallace

The Carolina Hurricanes have reached an agreement with UFA forward Tim Wallace on a one-year, two-way deal worth $700,000.

“Tim is a versatile forward and played well with Tampa Bay to finish the year,” said Carolina VP of Hockey Operations Ron Francis. “He has a good amount of pro experience and should challenge for a spot with the Hurricanes in training camp.”

Wallace, 27, split last season between the Isles and Lightning, scoring 3G-6A-9PTS in 49 games. It was actually something of a surprise that Tampa Bay didn’t re-up with Wallace -- after claiming him off waivers in late Feb, the Lightning watched as he racked up 3G-5A-8-PTS in 18 games, emerging as a nice bottom-six contributor down the stretch.

A right winger, Wallace will likely be fighting for minutes behind Carolina’s top two RWs, Tuomo Ruutu and Chad LaRose.
