After having a career year in 2011-12, Teddy Purcell is being rewarded by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The team announced they’ve signed Purcell to a three-year extension. He’s currently got one more year left on his current contract so his new deal will take him through the 2015-16 season. Renaud Lavoie from RDS reports the extension is worth $4.5 million per season, good for a total of $13.5 million.

Purcell finished last season with 24 goals and 41 assists for a career-high 65 points and has emerged as a solid complementary piece alongside Steve Stamkos and Martin St. Louis. Purcell was originally a member of the L.A. Kings but was traded in 2010 for Jeff Halpern. The Kings might want a do-over on that one as Purcell has evolved into a solid scorer and set-up man.
