Blues sign Nichol to one-year, $650,000 deal

Scott Nichol

The St. Louis Blues have re-upped with Scott Nichol, signing the veteran checking forward to a one-year deal with a base salary of $650k -- that could get to $700,000 with performance bonuses.

“We are pleased to have Scott back in the fold for next year,” Blues GM Doug Armstrong said. “His work ethic and professionalism are second to none and he serves as an excellent role model for our young core.”

The 37-year-old played all but two games last season, posting 3G-5A-8PTS while leading the Blues in faceoff percentage (57.6).

Nichol has bounced around the league since breaking in with Buffalo in 1995-96. He’s spent time in Calgary, Chicago, Nashville and San Jose, emerging as one of the league’s better grinders -- this despite standing all of 5-foot-9, 180 pounds.

Last season was a testament to his hard work and dogged determination, as Nichol set a career high in games played (80) and saw his minutes increase from the regular season (9:19) to the playoffs (11:29).
