NHLPA to hold meetings next week, CBA on the agenda

Donald Fehr

It’s likely we’ll get a better idea how the players will tackle the upcoming CBA negotiations when the NHLPA hold its executive board meetings next week in Chicago.

Union chief Donald Fehr will address the media Monday, a few players will talk Tuesday, then Fehr, the executive board, and other players will be available Wednesday after the meetings have concluded.

The league and union are expected to start negotiations in the near future. The CBA expires Sept. 15 and there are varying opinions how easily an agreement will be reached.

Will we see the union take an openly adversarial stance in public next week? There’s speculation the owners will attempt to cut the players’ share of revenue from its current 57 percent, and you can bet reporters will ask Fehr how the NHLPA would react to such a demand.
