Report: No supplemental discipline for Bernier on boarding major

It appears Brendan Shanahan’s final ruling of the season was to let Steve Bernier off the hook.

According to CBS Sports, the New Jersey forward won’t face any additional discipline for his boarding major and game misconduct on Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi during Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals.

Bernier’s five-minute penalty led to three Kings goals and essentially cost New Jersey the game.

(And the series.)

CBS’s Adam Gretz said he was told “the department of player safety deemed the penalty on the ice to be sufficient and there will be no supplemental discipline.”

The decision not to suspend Bernier leaves Shanahan with the following totals for the postseason.

Total suspensions: 12

Total games:44

Total fines: $35,000

As for suspensions carrying over to next season, Pittsburgh’s Arron Asham still has one game remaining for his crosscheck on Philadelphia’s Brayden Schenn while Raffi Torres still has 12 left on his.
