Randy Cunneyworth and Randy Ladouceur have been relieved of their duties as assistant coaches of the Montreal Canadiens, the team announced today.

The decision was made by new head coach Michel Therrien, who wishes to put together his own staff.

“Following my appointment as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, I made the decision of bringing together a new coaching staff. Out of respect for Randy Cunneyworth and Randy Ladouceur, I felt it was important that I notify them immediately in order for them to start looking for other opportunities without further delay. On behalf of the organization, I would like to thank both of them for their valuable contribution to the team and wish them the very best for the future,” said Therrien in a release.

Cunneyworth, of course, was named interim head coach of the Canadiens in December after Jacques Martin was fired. However, an inability to speak both French and English made Cunneyworth a long shot to remove the interim tag.
