Danny Cleary after knee surgery: “I feel fantastic”

It was nearly a month ago Red Wings forward Danny Cleary underwent knee surgery to take care of lingering issues with floating debris. Cleary tells Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press the operation went well and he’s gearing up for next season.

Cleary said he’s “incredibly encouraged” by how quickly he has rebounded.

“I’m very, very happy to be able to walk normal again, to have my strength back, being able to do squats,” he said. “It’s great.”

Walking normal sounds like a great thing for a hockey player to be able to do. Cleary has been a secretly important player to the Red Wings becoming a presence in front of and around the net as well as showing the ability to score 20-30 goals per season. If he’s able to return to form, he’s got a shot at being a top-six forward for the Wings again.
