KHL coming to Brooklyn in January?

KHL

Next January, the KHL plans to play two regular-season games at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Russian league’s president, Alexander Medvedev, announced his intentions today to Sovetzky Sport, though Yahoo!’s Dmitry Chesnokov reports nothing is official yet.

The Barclays Center is co-owned by the billionaire owner of the New Jersey Nets, Mikhail Prokhorov, who, yes, is quite Russian.

Brooklyn also has a large Russian community, making it as good as any place in North America to host a KHL game.

Whether there’s enough interest to fill a 14,500-seat arena twice, we’re not so sure. The KHL is a decent league, but it’s not the NHL.
