Jonathan Ericsson hasn’t played since Sweden’s first game of the World Championship. On Wednesday, Red Wings GM Ken Holland revealed that it’s because Ericsson has been dealing with a lower-back injury.
“It sounds to me like he’s done for the tournament,” Holland said. “I don’t expect him to play.”
It’s not clear if Ericsson’s injury is significant enough to hinder his summer training in any way. He missed some time during the 2011-12 campaign, but that was due to a broken wrist.
His injury doesn’t seem to have slowed down Team Sweden. Through four games, Sweden has a 4-0 record with wins to Norway, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and Germany. They’ve won all of their games by at least two goals.
