Despite missing over 70 games last season due to injury, Peter Regin has been re-signed by the Ottawa Senators.
Regin, 26, inked a one-year, one-way deal after playing in just 10 regular season games in 2011-12 due to a shoulder injury. The team announced the contract on its website today.
It seems this move is about Regin’s form of two years ago more than anything else. In 2009-10 he played 75 games with the Senators, posting career highs in goals (13), assists (16) and points (29) while leading Ottawa in goals (three) during the playoffs.
Regin’s problem throughout his four-year career is that he’s been chronically injured (especially his shoulders.) He missed 72 games last year, 27 the year before and seven the year before that, all due to either a shoulder or upper-body injury.
Financial terms of the deal were not released. Regin was an impending RFA that made $1 million annually on his last deal.
Update: According to Steve Lloyd of TEAM 1200 Ottawa, Regin’s deal is for $800,000.
