The Philadelphia Flyers had no trouble scoring with the man advantage against the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, after a six-day break between the first and second rounds, their power play seems to have cooled.
Philadelphia is just 1 for 11 on the power play against the New Jersey Devils in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. In Game 2 on Tuesday, Philadelphia managed just one shot on goal in five power-play opportunities. The Devils deserve some of the credit for that, but the Flyers are far from blameless.
“We are definitely not working hard enough on the power play,” Philadelphia’s Danny Briere said. “It’s as simple as that.”
They also need to do a better job of winning faceoffs while they have the man advantage. New Jersey won the opening faceoff in all five of their penalty kills on Tuesday.
With the series tied at 1-1, Philadelphia will get a chance to bounce back in Game 3 on Thursday.
