Toews: “Tonight we wouldn’t be denied”

Some people roll their eyes at all that’s been made of Jonathan Toews’ leadership qualities - or the concept in general - but it was pretty hard to argue with his results in Game 5. His top shelf overtime game-winner drew the Chicago Blackhawks’ deficit to 3-2 thanks to a 2-1 OT win against the Phoenix Coyotes, and as he said at the presser, there might have been a sense of destiny. (If you believe in that kind of thing, too.)

“They haven’t given us much this series, but tonight we wouldn’t be denied,” Toews said.

Nick Leddy scored the game-tying goal, yet an earlier missed opportunity adds a little extra weight to this comment, via Adam Jahns.

“It was long overdue,” Leddy said. “It felt great to tie it back up. Last game was kind of a downer.”

Losing such a close series would have been an even bigger downer. If the Blackhawks can keep up their timely scoring, they might have two or more blood pressure-increasing games left.
