Rangers have lost 7 consecutive playoff OT games

If the New York Rangers want to win the Stanley Cup, at some point they’re going to have to find a way to win in overtime. Both of the Ottawa Senators victories have come in overtime, but the Rangers struggles when a postseason game enters the sudden death format is nothing new.

The Rangers last overtime win in the playoffs came on April 29, 2007. Since then, they have lost seven straight playoff overtime games, including their 3-2 OT loss on Wednesday.

New York hasn’t been this good in a while. The last time they won their division was 1993-94, which was also the last time they won the Cup. The Rangers also came just three points shy of their regular season franchise record with 109. However, that won’t mean much of anything if they don’t go far in the playoffs.

With their first round series tied at 2-2 against the eighth seed Ottawa Senators, they still have a lot to prove.
