Blues’ McDonald says Galiardi headshot cracked his helmet

Another day, another bucket destroyed.

That was the word out of St. Louis on Saturday following the Blues’ 3-0 win over San Jose in Game 2 of their Western Conference quarterfinal. In speaking with reporters after the game, Blues alternate captain Andy McDonald revealed some pretty compelling visual evidence -- his cracked helmet, courtesy a headshot delivered by Sharks forward TJ Galiardi:

“The evidence kind of speaks for itself; he came in and elbowed me in the head and cracked my helmet,” McDonald said. “I think they’ll probably look at it. It’s just a play they’re trying to take out of hockey. It’s an elbow to the head.”

Even though the postseason is just five days old, we’ve already seen two helmets get cracked by violent plays. The first belonged to Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg -- it was broken after Shea Weber smashed it (and it’s contents -- namely, Zetterberg’s head) into the glass during Nashville’s Game 1 victory.
