Timonen on Wednesday’s win: “We got lucky”

The Philadelphia Flyers pulled off a huge comeback win in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, but can they do it again? Kimmo Timonen hopes they don’t have to find out.

“To be honest, I think we got lucky last night,” Timonen said. “We didn’t start the way we wanted to start. It’s not easy building a play against the top team in the league, so that’s why I say we got lucky. Tomorrow we have to be a totally different team in the first period.”

Timonen referring to more than just Danny Briere’s offside goal.

The Flyers are one of the best teams in the NHL when it comes to bouncing back after giving up the first goal, but the Penguins shouldn’t be underestimated. A lot had to go right for the Flyers to escape Game 1 with a win. Under similar circumstances, they might not be so lucky next time. Philadelphia has the edge in the series now, but the Penguins aren’t against the ropes yet.

As Timonen said, they need to come out strong on Friday if they want to take advantage of their “lucky” win.
