Lightning’s AHL squad earns record with 18th straight win

The Tampa Bay Lightning’s 2011-12 campaign might be one nail in the coffin away from dead, but at least it’s a very different story with their AHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals. The Admirals earned a 5-0 victory over Charlotte on Sunday to extend their winning streak to a single-season record breaking 18 games.

The current NHL record is 17 wins, set by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1992-93. However, the Admirals will need to win one more contest if they want to set the overall record for an AHL winning streak. Syracuse previously won 18 games over the course of the 2007-08 and 2008-09 campaigns.

Norfolk has scored 76 goals to the oppositions 29 over this stretch. This certainly gives Lightning fans some extra hope for the future, even if their present isn’t looking so grand.
