The GM meetings kicked off today, leading to player safety-centric discussions of various rule changes, including hybrid icing. (There have also been other debates, including talk of making hand passes a penalty, which drew the ire of PHT’s Joe Yerdon.)

Brendan Shanahan’s name is now directly linked to the NHL’s measures to make things safer, so it only makes sense to get his take on the meetings that could change the way games are called. Here’s a lengthy video providing his perspective on the proceedings - particularly arguing how players have adapted to rule alterations. (H/T to Kukla’s Korner.)

As a quirky bonus, check out this odd little look as the general managers prepared for this meeting, with an always-fun Brian Burke with-tie-undone shot. (Sidebar: how often are his ties actually tied?)
