Troubling news out of San Jose as the Sharks announced head coach Todd McLellan will miss Tuesday’s game against Philadelphia with concussion-like symptoms. McLellan, 44, was injured during Sunday’s game against Minnesota after being struck by a Wild player’s stick and collapsing:
“Todd continues to make progress in his recovery from the stick incident in Minnesota on Sunday evening but is still experiencing concussion-like symptoms,” San Jose GM Doug Wilson said in a statement. “Thus, he will not be behind the bench until cleared by doctors to resume his coaching duties.”
“Our main concern at this point is for Todd’s full and complete recovery.”
Sharks assistant coaches Matt Shaw and Jay Woodcroft will replace McLellan in the interim. It promises to be a tall order for the pair -- San Jose is 3-6-1 in its last 10 and sits in seventh place (71 points) heading into Monday’s action, two points back of Phoenix for top spot in the Pacific Division.
