Knuble a healthy scratch, Backstrom unsure when he’ll play again

Mike Knuble

A couple of Capitals notes out of Washington ahead of tonight’s game versus the Jets.

First, Mike Knuble will be a healthy scratch for the first time this season. The 39-year-old forward has just three goals in 53 games, so yeah, that’s why. Knuble will be replaced by Jay Beagle.

Second, leading scorer Nicklas Backstrom, out indefinitely since Jan. 3 with a concussion, spoke to a Swedish media outlet recently, and what he said won’t make Caps fans feel too great.

A few translated quotes, courtesy Japers’ Rink:

---- “Two weeks ago I tried to get on the ice for a practice, but I got off after three minutes. It didn’t work. I just wasn’t ready.”

---- “It’s tough, for sure. I don’t do much, basically I have spent much of my time on the couch napping and resting. Sometimes I’ve been at the practice rink, but I try to stay away from it as much as possible. It’s so frustrating for me to be there right now.”

---- “I don’t know when I will be able to play again, but I hope I will be ready for the playoffs.”
