Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby skated prior to the team’s practice at Consol Energy Center today, conducting a 45-minute workout alongside injured teammates Jordan Staal and Simon Despres.

(Also joining in on the fun were conditioning coach Mike Kadar and video coordinator/goalie Jim Britt.)

While No. 87 returned to the ice several weeks ago, this marked the first time he’d skated with teammates since coming back from California, where L.A.-based neurological spine specialist Dr. Robert S. Bray revealed Crosby had suffered fractured vertebrae in his neck.

As for today’s skate, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said Crosby “did some of his most intense work” after Staal and Despres left the ice and “didn’t look much like a guy whose return to the lineup remains a matter of great uncertainty.”

Molinari also stated “indications” are that Crosby will skate again tomorrow (Tuesday), then stay off the ice on Wednesday when the Pens are in Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs.
