The NHL has announced that Toronto hip-hop artist Drake will perform during the second intermission of the 2012 All-Star Game in Ottawa. Drake, whose second studio album “Take Care” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart back in November, is currently nominated for three 2012 Grammy awards.

Most know Drake as a musician, but to me he’ll always be Jimmy Brooks (the basketball star that got shot in the back and ended up in a wheelchair) from the Canadian teen drama Degrassi. It’s a good show, if you like the metric system and kids saying “aboot.”

Anyway, back to All-Star Game entertainment. Joining Drake in the festivities will be New York singer/rapper Outasight, who will perform his hit single, “Tonight is the Night” during player introductions. (The only exception is for Tim Thomas, who requested Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land.”)

The U.S. and Canadian national anthems will be sung by Javier Colon -- who won the first season of NBC’s reality TV show “The Voice” -- and Lyndon Slewidge, an Ontario Provincial Police officer that’s served as Otawa’s’ official anthem singer since the early 90s.
