Jaromir Jagr aggravated calf injury during Winter Classic

Jaromir Jagr splitting the New York Rangers’ defense was one of the great early moments of the 2012 Winter Classic. Unfortunately, it was one of Jagr’s last shifts, as CSNPhilly.com’s Tim Panaccio reports that he aggravated a previous calf injury during that second period moment.

The veteran Philadelphia Flyers forward was reportedly speared in the calf during last Thursday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Stephen Whyno passes along word from Jagr that he stayed on the Flyers bench because he “didn’t want to leave the team.” One can assume that Jagr probably wanted to soak in the scene at the Winter Classic, too. Pierre McGuire also pointed out that the benches were very warm, so it might not have been a bad place for an injured player to be.

It’s unclear how severe Jagr’s injury might be at this point, but it was enough to limit his activity during a high-profile game.
