Dennis Wideman stole the spotlight on Friday night, but Alex Ovechkin was a busy man. He earned an assist, fired eight shots on net and generally looked like the constant factor the Washington Capitals hope for. Check out this fascinating video of his matchup with Dion Phaneuf, which doesn’t show Phaneuf’s “spear” on John Carlson but does make a passing mention of it ...

The other obligatory Ovechkin video shows the Capitals captain accidentally knocking linesman Dan Shachte down and immediately apologizing.

It looks like Ovechkin is pretty serious about hitting “anything that moves.”
