Between the second and third periods of an exhibition against the Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers Scott Hartnell dealt with “a very scary situation.” Hartnell noticed a twitch in his right arm, a sign that he might have been dealing with an elevated heart rate. That condition took an alarming amount of time to subside, prompting the Flyers to hold Hartnell out of the final frame of that game on Friday.
Although Hartnell underwent initial tests that came up negative, the Flyers were concerned enough to send him to a cardiologist on Tuesday. (Hartnell deflected questions about his heart rate, describing his layoff as a “maintenance day” utilized to shake off soreness.)
Thankfully, the news is good: Hartnell passed Tuesday’s test as well, according to QMI Agency. In fact, Hartnell was reportedly able to practice today and might even suit up for the Flyers in their preseason match with the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.
Let’s hope this is the last we hear about heart problems for the 29 year old forward, as hilarious as “Heartnell” puns might be.
