Game of the Week: Scoreless second period keeps Rangers-Pengiuins tied 1-1

As usual, Henrik Lundqvist is making a difference for the New York Rangers, even if he might be dealing with a stiff neck.

The Swedish netminder only allowed one goal in the first two periods of the NBC Game of the Week against the Penguins in Pittsburgh, putting aside 28 out of 29 shots. Marc-Andre Fleury hasn’t been tested nearly as much (13 out of 14 saves), but their results have ultimately been the same.

NY Rangers 1, Pittsburgh 1

Despite the fact that it was a scoreless second period, it was an active middle frame. The Penguins out-shot the Rangers 19-7 in the second after taking a 10-7 advantage in the first, giving them almost a games’ worth of shots with 29 so far. Beyond shots, both teams exchanged rushes and plenty of hits in a tight game.

Jordan Staal scored for Pittsburgh and Artem Anisimov provided the Rangers’ goal in the first period. It should be a feisty and hard-fought third period, so stay tuned for the results.
