Vancouver Canucks defenseman Sami Salo wasn’t the only NHL player who suffered an injury from blocking a shot tonight, as gritty Toronto Maple Leafs forward Colby Armstrong’s messy season might be over after he did the same thing.
Armstrong reportedly broke his foot blocking a shot by Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Mike Lundin during the Leafs’ 6-2 loss. It was already a tough night for Toronto, but they’ll likely need to keep their unlikely playoff run going without a hard-hitting player who also provides a dash of offensive skill. (Armstrong has eight goals and 15 assists for 24 points in 49 games this season.)
It’s been a rough year first season in Toronto for the former Atlanta Thrashers and Pittsburgh Penguins pest. He suffered a scratched cornea and finger injury after Ben Eager caught him with an absolutely ugly sucker punch earlier this season. (Eager was suspended four games for the incident, which also likely caused him to be traded to the San Jose Sharks.)
