Video: USHL player’s shot hits post, puck splits in half

The word “unique” gets thrown around a lot these days, to the point that it is losing its meaning. After all, dictionary.reference.com provides this as its first definition: “existing as the only one or as the sole example; single; solitary in type or characteristics.”

You need to roll all the way down to the first half of the sixth definition provided to arrive at the word’s most common use: something or someone unusual. It seems like anyone with a penchant for bad poetry or the “daring” to drive a hybrid car can earn unique status at this point.

Well, let us say that the clip below provides something truly deserving of the word unique. Besides, you know it’s a pretty special clip when we’re posting something from the USHL.

Andrew Prochno of the Sioux Falls Stampede (great team name, no surprise) launched a shot that hit the post, leading to something happening I’ve never seen before: the puck split in half. It’s truly is something unique, in just about every sense of the word. (Puck Daddy has a little more on the odd moment.)
