Riding the Zamboni - Tuesday, November 16th

Philadelphia Flyers v Montreal Canadiens

MONTREAL - NOVEMBER 16: Travis Moen #32 of the Montreal Canadiens congratulates team mate Carey Price #31 on his shut out victory against the Philadelphia Flyers during the NHL game at the Bell Centre on November 16, 2010 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. With just three games tonight, the ride on the Zamboni will be short but it’ll be worthwhile with the Leafs getting off the schnide, Carey Price standing on his head once again, and the Stars shining brightly in Dallas.

Montreal 3 - Philadelphia 0

It was a battle between highlight-reel goalies with Carey Price getting the start against Sergei Bobrovsky but it would be Price that would shine tonight. Price stopped 41 shots in earning his third shutout of the season. I think we can officially put away the Price/Halak comparisons for good as Price has been outstanding. After being the NHL’s #1 star of the week last week, he continues to impress in stopping the red-hot Flyers. Mike Cammalleri, Tomas Plekanec, and Brian Gionta all scored for the Habs. Meanwhile, Bobrovsky looked a bit tired and after starting in his 11th straight game, I think he’s got a valid excuse if he was. Bobrovsky made 25 saves in the loss.

Toronto 5 - Nashville 4

Things looked bleak early for Toronto when the Predators jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. A Luke Schenn goal seemed to snap the Leafs out of things and get them rolling. Kris Versteeg scored two goals while Mikhail Grabovsky and Nikolai Kulemin added goals for the Leafs on the way to the victory. Jonas Gustavsson closed out the game for starter Jean-Sebastian Giguere after Giguere left the game with an apparent groin injury. For Nashville, their woes resume and tonight their defense is to blame. After winning two in a row after snapping a five-game losing streak, the Preds went back to old habits in this one. They played tough, but sloppy. For Toronto, the win snaps their eight-game losing streak. The team needed a win something terrible and the way they came back tonight is almost virtually inspiring.

Dallas 2 - Anaheim 1

Brad Richards’ eighth goal of the season snapped a 1-1 tie in the third period to give the Stars the win. A rather pedestrian game all around saw Dallas get a power play goal from Steve Ott while Anaheim’s lone goal came courtesy of Corey Perry, his ninth goal of the year. Kari Lehtonen stopped 26 shots in the win while Jonas Hiller saved 24. The loss snaps a seven-game point streak for the Ducks.
