There were four games tonight, with the latest one (Nashville Predators vs. Anaheim Ducks) ending the evening unusually early. Let’s take a look at the full slate, then, folks.

Washington 3, Philadelphia 2 (OT)

Check out an extended recap of the Capitals’ OT win over the Flyers, which ended Philadelphia’s six-game winning streak in exciting fashion.

St. Louis 2, NY Rangers 0

Jaroslav Halak doesn’t need to look over his shoulders like he did in Montreal, but that doesn’t mean that Ty Conklin is chopped liver. Conklin stopped all 27 shots to win a battle of the backups, as he topped Martin Biron (who made 20 out of 21 saves). Alex Steen scored both the game-winner and empty-netter in this one.

One glaring stat in what seemed like a mostly quiet game: the Blues dominated the faceoff circle, with a 38-16 record in draws (David Backes stood out the most, winning 11 out of 12).

Edmonton 2, Chicago 1

The Oilers seem like they can’t beat anyone lately ... except the defending champion Blackhawks in Chicago. Edmonton lost eight out of their last 10 games, only winning two different games at the United Center.

In both games, the Oilers won on the strength of lightning fast scoring. This time around, they scored two goals in 14 seconds during the third period to tie the game and then take the lead. Nikolai Khabibulin improved his record to 4-6 by stopping 26 out of 27 shots while Corey Crawford won’t be pushing Marty Turco for the starting job anytime soon now that his record slipped to 1-4.

Anaheim 5, Nashville 4

Speaking of rapid game-altering events, how about Paul Mara scoring the game-winning goal with less than two seconds left in the third period? It was a see-saw game, with the Ducks gaining and relinquishing four different one-goal leads before Mara’s tally.

Saku Koivu scored two goals, Teemu Selanne scored one goal and added an assist, Lubomir Visnovsky also scored and obviously Mara had the winner for Anaheim. Meanwhile, Cody Franson, Patric Hornqvist and Cal O’Reilly each scored a goal and an assist while Steve Sullivan also scored for the Predators.

Anders Lindback turned aside 32 out of 37 shots to keep Nashville in the game, but Jonas Hiller bested him despite a middling performance (stopping 20 out of 24 shots).
