2010 NHL free agency: Predators re-sign goalie Mark Dekanich

The Nashville Predators have re-signed one of their depth goaltenders who may stand a chance at getting to back up Pekka Rinne this year. Former fifth round pick out of Colgate University Mark Dekanich, who spent last year in Milwaukee of the AHL, re-signed for one year on a two-way contract.

Nashville’s situation in goal this year is proving to be interesting provided they don’t sign one of the few remaining experienced veterans to back up Rinne. While some bluster has circled about that Jose Theodore might be interested in the Predators, it’s shaping up to be an organizational showdown amongst Dekanich and Chet Pickard to see who will get to give Rinne a rest. Pickard saw his younger brother Calvin get drafted by the Colorado Avalanche this summer. It shapes up into the sort of thing that reality television is made out of. The winner of the competition in camp gets a job in the NHL while the other one gets to go back to the AHL. I’m just an idea guy here people.
