2010 NHL Free Agency: Islanders sign veteran Jon Sim to one year, two-way deal

The New York Islanders signed veteran forward Jon Sim to a one-year, two-way deal according to Katie Strang of New York Newsday. Former NHL player Justin Bourne makes a good point that it must feel odd for Sim, who will have “no guarantees” that he’ll be a part of the big club even at 32-years-old.

Still, it’s a tough free agent market so Sim probably wasn’t going to find a much better deal out there. He played 77 games with the Islanders last season, scoring 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points. Looking at that stat line, it’s not surprising that GM Garth Snow won the battle between Sim’s security and the team’s flexibility.

Salary details weren’t disclosed, but I think it’s pretty safe to say that the forward won’t be getting paid very much (even if he stays at the NHL level).
