2010 NHL Free Agency: Buffalo locks up rugged forward Patrick Kaleta to two-year deal

The Buffalo Sabres signed agitating forward Patrick Kaleta to a two-year contract, according to various sources. No word yet on the financial details, but I’d imagine that he signed a pretty affordable deal (Derek Boogaard’s contract might make that last statement incorrect, though). This allows the Sabres and Kaleta to avoid salary arbitration.

In 55 games, Kaleta scored a career-high 10 goals and 15 points while racking up 89 penalty minutes. He also saw the most amount of minutes per game of his limited four seasons in the NHL, averaging a bit more than 10 minutes per contest after averaging a little less than nine in 08-09.

With this signing, the Sabres’ roster is about set, although they do have about $8.5 million in cap space not counting whatever Kaleta will make.
