2010 NHL Free Agency: The Sutter family stays together in Calgary, other small signings

brettsutter.jpg

Here is a roundup of today’s small-time signings.

  • Some might call it a dysfunctional one considering last season’s failed attempt at a playoff berth, but the Sutter clan is represented well by the Calgary Flames franchise. They can cover the GM (Daryl), coach (Brent) and player (Brett) if the youngster can be a regular on the big team roster. Daryl signed his son to a one-year contract today, according to the team. How puck despotic!
  • The Rangers and Ducks are once again trade partners. About a week or so ago, the Rangers acquired Steve Eminger from Anaheim. The two teams exchanged low-impact players again today, with defenseman Matt McCue going to the Big Apple in exchange for forward Tomas Zaborsky. (Source: TSN)
  • Finally, the Montreal Canadiens signed two one-year, two-way deals today. The players who received them are forward Ryan Russell and goalie Cedrick “The Entertainer” Desjardins. (Source of story: TSN; source of cheesy pun nickname: your ashamed author.)
