The Philadelphia Flyers’ defense now looks complete thanks to the signing of veteran D Sean O’Donnell. The team signed him to a one-year, $1 million contract according to Broad Street Hockey.
O’Donnell is your typical grizzled veteran. He was a member of the Cup-winning Anaheim Ducks (so chances are he might be pals - or at least respected colleagues - with Chris Pronger) and helped mentor young star defenseman Drew Doughty in Los Angeles in 09-10.
The Flyers blueline now features Chris Pronger, Kimmo Timonen, Andrej Meszaros, Matt Carle, Braydon Coburn and Sean O’Donnell. It’s an expensive but varied group. O’Donnell won’t be a big impact player, but at that price and term, he should be an above average option in the bottom pairing (or bottom-four).
