While he was part of what was thought to be the most dysfunctional trade of the year last season, Guillaume Latendresse, who wore out his welcome in Montreal the same way Benoit Pouliot had in St. Paul, managed to make believers out of Minnesota Wild fans. Now the Minnesota faithful can rest a little easier as the Wild have re-signed the power forward to a new deal. Michael Russo of the Star Tribune shares the news via Twitter.

Guillaume Latendresse, who scored a career-high 27 goals last season, agrees to terms on 2-yr, $5 million deal, says Fletcher

Yes, Latendresse scored 27 goals last season, 25 which came with the Minnesota Wild, providing a miraculous offensive punch to a team that desperately needed to give Mikko Koivu help. The contract breaks down to be worth $2.4 million this season and $2.6 million next year for a nice, tidy cap hit of $2.5 million. If, and this is a relatively big “if” here, Latendresse can keep up what he did after joining the Wild, general manager Chuck Fletcher got a steal and a half locking up the 6'2" 230 pound forward for that kind of money.
