Richards and Bergeron battling in faceoff circle

A lot of the attention in the series between the Flyers and Bruins has been on the growing animosity between Dan Carcillo and Marc Savard. Yet in any long series there are other matchups and battles that become more intriguing each game, and currently we have one that’s building between Patrice Bergeron and Mike Richards -- in the faceoff circle.

Richards was downright horrid in the faceoff circle in Game 2 and while he’s not exactly calling Bergeron a ‘cheater’, he does say that perhaps the Bruin was able to cheat a bit better than he was. Per Tom Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com:

“He’s strong and I think he’s got enough respect [from the officials] where he’s allowed to cheat a little bit more,” Richards said. “I’m not sure what else. Faceoffs are all about who can cheat the most.

“In the long run, I think it’s a lot easier taking faceoffs at home than it is on the road.”

With the series headed back to Philadelphia, Richards should gain the “cheater’s advantage” in the matchup with Bergeron, who says Richards is a good faceoff man and they’re both trying to win their draws “pretty clean”.
