Another hurdle for Wang’s Lighthouse project

This morning we posted an article covering the possible departure of the Islanders from Long Island in light of financial hardships and roadblocks in getting plans for a new arena approved by the Town of Hempstead. Now, there could be another wrench thrown into the works after Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said that he is considering a deal with Shinnecock Nation.

Per Celeste Hadrick, of Newsday.com (subscription required):

“My administration has been in discussion with the Shinnecock Indian Nation with respect to Nassau Coliseum being listed as a site for an entertainment destination center and casino,” Mangano said in a statement Tuesday.

This is just another option the county is lookingat, said Mangano, and that Charles Wang’s Lighthouse project is still under consideration. Obviously this affects Wang’s plans, as it seems the county is ready to move on to another possible development for the area while the Lighthouse project is lost in red-tape hell.

The Shinnecock Nation proposal would include plans for a new arena for the Islanders, although I’d imagine Wang wouldn’t be too happy about taking second fiddle in a separate proposal while he has his deadlocked.
