Shane Doan out tonight vs. Red Wings

While we still don’t know what his injury is exactly, and likely won’t until after the season, Shane Doan has been ruled out for tonight’s game against the Detroit Red Wings by coach Dave Tippett. Per Craig Custance of Sporting News:

Tippett: "[Doan] will get a rest tonight, hopefully he can jump back in Friday.”

So how will the Coyotes respond without their captain on the ice? If Sunday’s game is any indication, they Coyotes have a great ability to elevate their play to make up for a lost teammate.

One could argue that the moment Doan was lost for the game was the turning point, as the Coyotes relentlessly attacked the Red Wings from that point forward.

Update: Custance has some quotes up from Tippett, who says that Doan was initially upset when told the team wanted to keep him out for tonight’s game. Tippett also indicated that this was not a long-term injury and it’s likely Doan will return for game 5.
