Tim Sassone of the Daily Herald has some great stuff today from Dustin Byfuglien of the Blackhawks, who has been converted to a defenseman after Brian Campbell was lost to a broken collarbone. If you’re a team with Stanley Cup aspirations and you have to put a forward back on defense, then pairing him with Duncan Keith is not exactly the worst choice you can make.
Of course, it’s made the pair into what Byfuglien calls ‘an odd couple’.
“We just go out and play together,” Byfuglien said. “He likes to play different in a real weird way and I’m kind of the same way. I guess we just kind of talk to each other and just read off each other more or less than sit there and try to figure each other out. Just read and whatever you see go to that spot and hope it works.
“We’re kind of an odd couple, I think so. It’s fun and I enjoy it. He keeps me on the happy side back there. I can always come off and smile and kind of forget about what happened and just wait for the next (shift).”
