Tarik El-Bashir of the Washington Post is reporting that the NHL has
suspended Alex Ovechkin two games for his hit on Brian Campbell in
yesterday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
I am of a split
mind on this decision.
First, this is what the NHL should have
done from the very beginning. Ovechkin has had far too many instances of
reckless behavior this season, and is going to have to learn a tough
lesson before his reckless behavior before he either hurts someone else
or hurts his team once the playoffs begin.
Yet it’s obvious there
never would have been a suspension had Campbell not been hurt. That
doesn’t change the fact that Ovechkin’s hit was reckless and dangerous,
and just as worthy of a suspension as the NHL ultimately deemed it to
