Marek Svatos is prepared to leave Colorado

It’s been a tough season for Marek Svatos and it looks like he’s on his way out of Colorado. The right winger is in the midst of a two-season slump and it’s only getting worse; for some making $2 million and scheduled to be a free agent this summer, that’s usually a sign he’ll be moved. If someone will take him.

Svatos is prepared for what may come.

“If it happens, it happens. I’m ready for it,” Svatos said. “I just put it in the back of my mind. We’ll see.”

Prior to signing his two-year contract ins 2008, Svatos had two 45+ point seasons and twice scored more than 25 goals with the Avalanche. Since then, he’s managed just 20 goals and 24 points in 113 games. Not to say he’s slacking -- by all accounts Svatos is a hard worker and has been doing everything he can to get out of this slump -- but too many times you see players get their contract and then the production drops off.

Perhaps this could be a case of a new environment sparking him again. He’s a right-handed right wing with proven scoring ability; there’s value in that around the NHL. Chicago (interesting) and San Jose had scouts at last night’s game; there’s bound to be some interest somewhere.
