Isles trade Andy Sutton to Ottawa; 2nd-round draft picks a hot commodity

Apparently all you need to make a reasonable trade these days is a second round draft pick.

While the going guess was that Aaron Ward would be the defenseman headed to Ottawa, the Senators have instead added veteran blueliner Andy Sutton, sending a 2010 second-round draft pick to the New York Islanders.

Sutton is in the final year of his contract, and is in the midst of his best season since 2006. He’s the depth and veteran presence the Senators are needing, although he’s appeared in just one playoff series in his career.

So the question is: are the Senators done? They could still use some playoff experience on defense, although just adding Sutton certainly balances up the blue line more than before. Of course, they won’t be able to add anymore salary without giving anything up; just trading away a draft pick won’t be enough.
